BLAINE, MN —
The Amarillo Wranglers were no match for the Anchorage Wolverines as the Wolverines took game two of the NAHL Showcase, 5-4, in regulation.
After going down 1-0 in the first, Balint Lobenwein wasted no time leveling the score coming out of the locker room.
Jack McKenna’s drop pass hit the foot of an Amarillo player, ricocheting straight to Lobenwein’s stick. Lobenwein one-timed the puck glove side to bring the game even.
Just one minute after Lobenwein’s equalizer, Amarillo regained the lead.
Following a give-and-go between Easton Walters and Oliver Morris, Morris sent a centering pass to Harout Arutyunyan, who skated through three defensemen before finding the back of the net to level the score once again.
Just seconds later, Caleb Mahar gave the Wolverines their first lead of the night on their first man advantage.
Aiden Lawson found Morris near the side of the net, where he settled the puck before sending it back to the slot. Mahar was waiting and one-timed it into the back of the net to put the Wolverines ahead.
In a game that continued to go back and forth, Amarillo found the equalizer before the teams headed to the locker room.
John Scott returned the lead to the Wolverines within the first five minutes of the final frame. Benson Peterson carried the puck into the zone before feeding Scott at the top of the circles, where he buried the go-ahead goal.
After Jack McKenna forced a turnover in the neutral zone, Chase Trompeter gained possession before handing the puck back to McKenna. McKenna cut inside and fired the puck home to give the Wolverines their fifth and final goal of the night.
The Wolverines will take a day off tomorrow before returning to the ice Saturday for their final game of the NAHL Showcase against the Bismarck Bobcats. Puck drop is set for 12:15 pm AKST.
