The Anchorage Wolverines beat the Kenai River Brown Bears 4-2 on Friday night, winning in their first home game of 2023. Anchorage got scoring from across the line-up and was backstopped by a strong 26 save performance from netminder Shane Soderwall. The Wolverines also held the Brown Bears scoreless on the powerplay, killing off five penalties over the course of the game.

Anchorage started strong, jumping out to a three-goal lead after one period of play. Hayden Hennen started the scoring for the Wolverines, potting an unassisted goal three minutes in. Then Revy Mack added to the lead off of an excellent pass from Tomek Haula, scoring his first junior goal in the process. Recent UAF commit Fedya Nikolayenya finished the 1st period by scoring with 15 seconds remaining in play, giving Anchorage a solid lead heading into the 2nd. Kenai River would get cut the Wolverines’ lead by one through the middle frame, scoring two goals to the one goal scored by Anchorage’s Wilson Dahlheimer. The Wolverines would play a structured defensive game through the remainder of regulation however, and following a scoreless 3rd period, Anchorage won by a final score of 4-2.

With the win, the Wolverines now have 19 points in the Club 49 Cup standings, six points ahead of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs who sit in second.
