Wolverines Take on Ice Dogs for First Time this Season

Nov 8, 2023

Anchorage, Alaska |11/7/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines will battle their northern cross-state rivals, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, for the first time this season on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will be at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena, where Anchorage won four out their six games against the Ice Dogs in the 2022-23 season.

The Wolverines had a record of 7-2-3 against Fairbanks last season, which helped propel them to a Club 49 Cup win over the Ice Dogs and Kenai River Brown Bears. This season, Anchorage leads both other Alaska teams with four points in the Club 49 Cup standings, with Kenai River holding three points and Fairbanks sitting in last with two. In the Midwest division standings, the Wolverines and Ice Dogs are tied with 18 points. However, Anchorage has played four fewer games than Fairbanks in this young season.

This weekend will be the Ice Dogs’ second weekend on the road, with Fairbanks playing the Brown Bears in Soldotna last weekend, gaining two points in the process. The Wolverines are coming off of a rest weekend, and will look to forwards like Kade Shea and Tai Ushio to continue the offensive production that they showcased against the Wisconsin Windigo at the end of last month. Both Friday and Saturday’s games begin at 7 p.m. AKST. Tickets can be purchased now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com. For those not able to watch the games in-person, both will be available live and on-demand exclusively on nahltv.com.
