Wolverines Play Springfield for the First Time This Season

Feb 1, 2023

Anchorage, Alaska | 2/1/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines head to Springfield this weekend to play the Springfield Jr. Blues for the first time in the 2022-23 season. The two teams will play against each other three times this week, Thursday and Friday at 4:05 AKST and Saturday at 3:05 AKST.

During last year’s regular season, the Wolverine’s had a losing record against Springfield, winning just two games out of six, and losing three times in regulation and once in a shootout. The playoffs were a different story however, with Anchorage sweeping the Jr. Blues in three games, all of which were played in Springfield during the first round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs. Thursday’s game will mark the first time since game 3 of that series that the Wolverines play the Jr. Blues.

Anchorage currently sits in sixth place in the Midwest, just four points out of a playoff spot. Springfield is in last in the division, and is looking to string a couple big weekends together to keep their season alive. As the Jr. Blues look for revenge for last year, the Wolverines have a chance to make up ground and slot into a playoff position with a strong performance over this three game stretch. All three games of this weekend can be watched exclusively on HockeyTV.
