Anchorage, Alaska |11/16/23 | Isaac Smoldon

After a weekend split against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, the Anchorage Wolverines will take on the Kenai River Brown Bears in a home-and-home series this Friday and Saturday. Anchorage swept the Brown Bears in their last meeting, and because of this, currently sit on top of the Club 49 Cup standings with six points. Kenai River is in third place in the Midwest division standings, but the Wolverines are only two points behind them, with a whopping five games in hand against their cross-state rival.

Anchorage will again look to local players to bring the intensity for this rivalry series. Luke Anderson and Cole Frawner both played well last weekend, with Anderson scoring his first of the season on Friday night, and Frawner recording a point and a scrap on the weekend. However, the big player to watch this weekend is Soldotna native Trent Powell. Powell had the overtime game winner against the Brown Bears in the first game between the two teams this season, and historically always brings the intensity against his hometown team. In the 12 games he played against Kenai River last year, he had six goals and eight assists for 14 points.

Friday’s game is at the Ben, with puck drop at 7 p.m. AKST. Tickets can be purchased now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com. Saturday’s game in Soldotna starts at 7:30 AKST and will be available live and on-demand exclusively on nahltv.com.
