After getting the week off for the Christmas holiday, the Wolverines are back on the road to face the Janesville Jets for three games over the course of the next week. The two teams will play against each other twice this weekend in Janesville, Friday and Saturday at 4:05 p.m. AKST, and then play once on January 4th, at 7 p.m. AKST.
Anchorage comes back from the break in sixth place in the Midwest division, but well within striking distance of a playoff spot, sitting two points back of fourth place, and just seven points behind the first place Minnesota Wilderness. Their opponent in the Jets currently occupy fifth place in the division, but Janesville has just one more point in the standings than the Wolverines with 33 points to Anchorage’s 32.
Friday’s game will be just the third time this season that the two teams have faced off, with the Wolverines and Janesville splitting the last pair of games they played against each other during Anchorage’s home-opening weekend. That weekend saw the Wolverines mount a stunning comeback in the first game, scoring four unanswered goals in the 3rd period to tie the contest, followed by a shootout victory. The Jets would respond in the following game winning by a score of 5-2.
With the Midwest division remaining extremely competitive, and with both teams neck-and-neck in the standings, all three games between Anchorage and Janesville will be incredibly important for both squads.
