Janesville, Wisconsin | 9/22/23 | Jacqueline Hixssen – Isaac Smolden
The Anchorage Wolverines dropped the first game of the series against the Janesville Jets on Friday night by a score of 7-3. With the win, Janesville jumps out to a three-point lead over Anchorage in the Midwest division standings.
Both teams came out of the game hot, scoring two goals apiece in the opening period. Tyler Hennen broke the ice six minutes into the first frame before the Jets evened the score a minute later. Shortly after the equalizer, the Wolverines took the lead once more when Tai Ushio capitalized on a pass from Danny Bagnole. The Jets would tie the game before heading into first intermission however, thanks to a Merril Steenari’s first of the season.
The Jets dominated through the 2nd, tallying four points within seven minutes and chasing Jozef Zilinec out of the net with Liam Beerman stepping in to replace him. The Wolverines went scoreless throughout the period. Ushio would attempt to get the Wolverines back in the game with his second goal of the night early in the 3rd, but it would be too little too late, and a late goal from Janesville finalized the score at 7-3.
The Wolverines will look to split their series against Janesville with a win in tomorrow’s game. Puck drop is at 4:05 p.m. AKDT. The contest can be viewed live and on-demand exclusively at nahltv.com.
