Anchorage, Alaska |3/3/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines beat their in-state rivals the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 6-3 on Friday night, winning the first game of a 12-game home stand. Shane Soderwall had 30 saves in the contest, helping his team bounce back after being swept by the Ice Dogs last weekend in Fairbanks.

The Wolverines got the first goal of the game, scored by Wilson Dahlheimer six minutes into the opening frame. Fairbanks would respond with two goals late in the 1st, taking a 2-1 lead into the middle period. Anchorage would then proceed to score three unanswered goals in the 2nd, with Jackson Reineke scoring two, before Joe Cesario potted his first at the Ben in a Wolverines jersey. A defensive breakdown led to the Ice Dogs pulling back within one, but a Revy Mack tip in the 3rd, followed by an Andy Ramsey snipe from the point gave Anchorage a solid finish as they beat Fairbanks by three goals.

With the win, the Wolverines stay on top of the Club 49 Cup race, and are now just two points back of the fourth-place Kenai River Brown Bears. Anchorage and the Ice Dogs play their final regular season game against each other tomorrow at the Ben, starting at 7 p.m. AKST.

The Wolverines will continue their specialty jersey auction benefitting the Aubri Brown Club tomorrow as well, with six jerseys being auctioned off in person at the Ben, while the rest are available for live bidding on DASH until Sunday at 12 p.m. The online auction can be accessed through linktr.ee/ANCHORAGEWOLVERINES and tickets can be found at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com.
