Trio of Anchorage Wolverines commit to play in the NCAA

Jul 12, 2023

The Anchorage Wolverines are happy to announce the college commitments of three former players: Revy Mack, Clay Allen and Shane Soderwall.

Revy Mack commits to Middlebury College

Middlebury College plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) within NCAA Division III.

“I’m grateful to be able to study and play hockey in such a great spot,” Mack said.

Mack is a forward who joined the Wolverines midway through the 2022-23 season, with his first game against the Wisconsin Windigo. In total, Mack tallied 15 points throughout his 34 games with the Wolverines.

“Revy’s size and skill set are going to be a perfect match for Middlebury College,” Head Coach Nick Walters said. “Revy came to us in the middle of the season and showed that he can chip in offensively by going to the net.”

As an Anchorage local, he proved fierce against Alaska competition. Mack put up eight points against the Ice Dogs and Brown Bears.

“He also flourished in penalty kill situations and down the stretch showed that he had a physical component to his game,” Walters said. “He’s a player that is going to find a way to help the team win, whether it’s scoring a goal, blocking a shot, or making that big hit on the forecheck. I look forward to watching Revy in the future.”

Clay Allen commits to St. Mary’s University

Clay Allen is another local Anchorage product who represented his hometown throughout 155 games. Allen secured 25 goals and 68 assists throughout his two seasons with the team.

Allen is a versatile player who can crash the net just as well as defend it.

“Clay’s offensive ability is evident from day one. A player that likes to join the rush and is not shy about shooting the puck from the blue line,” Walters said. “His biggest improvement this year was on the defensive side of the game. Learning when to join the rush, but also when to hold back and protect the house.”

The Saint Mary’s Cardinals compete in the NCAA Division III within the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The MIAC will provide Allen with some familiar faces, with Eino Rissanen playing for St. Scholastica and Logan Lyke heading to St. John’s University.

“As he continues to blend both the offensive and defensive parts of his game, Saint Mary’s is getting an impact player,” Walters said.

Shane Soderwall commits to Curry College

Shane Soderwall joined the Wolverines for its inaugural season, previously playing for the Rochester Grizzlies. With the Wolverines, Soderwall grabbed a save average of 0.910% while logging 59 wins and securing two shutouts for the team.

Curry College is located in Milton, Massachusetts, and finished the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 22-6-1 and a conference record of 16-4-1.

“Watching Shane progress this season, I am really excited for him to continue his hockey journey at Curry College. He will step in and fight for games right away,” Walters said. “He is an intense competitor that kept us in a lot of games we didn’t belong in. Down the stretch, he logged a lot of minutes for us, and I see that being the case in the future at Curry College.”
