Anchorage, Alaska | 11/19/22 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines were swept by the Kenai River Brown Bears this past weekend, managing to pick up a point with Saturday’s overtime loss. Their one point on the weekend keeps them in first place in the Club 49 Cup standings, one point ahead of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Saturday’s game was also the first game played by goaltender Eino Rissanen for Anchorage, who made 37 saves on 39 shots.

The Wolverines scored the first goal of the contest, with Trent Powell potting his third of the season with just over six minutes remaining in the 1st. The game was a defensive battle throughout, with neither team scoring until Kenai River tied the game with just six minutes left in the 3rd. Unlike Friday, Saturday’s game would need overtime to decide a victor. The Brown Bears would score just 17 seconds into the extra frame, winning the game 2-1 and sweeping Anchorage on the weekend.

The Wolverines now look forward to next weekend, when they will return to Fairbanks for the second time this season. Anchorage has a 3-0-1 record against the Ice Dogs this season, with two of the wins taking place the last time the Wolverines were in Fairbanks. The games take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 AKST and both can be watched on HockeyTV.com.
