The Anchorage Wolverines DID IT AGAIN! For the second weekend in a row, the Anchorage Wolverines have SWEPT the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

The Wolverines put up seven goals tonight, the first two coming from Fedya Nikolayenya. Tai Ushio secured the third and Brock Devlin closed the first frame with his goal, turning the score to 4-0.

Head coach of Fairbanks only lasted the first 20-minutes of the game, as he was ejected during the first intermission after sharing words with one of the referees.

Under assistant coach Dakota Bell, the Ice Dogs attempted a comeback in the second, finding the back of the net twice within the first 10-minutes of the second period. Not long after, Artem Shchipanov found Tyler Hennen who grabbed the Wolverines fifth goal of the night.

Shchipanov recorded his first point with the Wolverines, on the first night he wore the Wolverines sweater. The Wolverines recently acquired Shchipanov from the Maryland Black Bears, and has already made his mark in front of Wolverines Nation.

Cole Christian and Romolus Riego de Dios secured the Wolverines’ last two goals of the night. Soon after, Fairbanks scooted in their final goal.

The aftermath of Fairbanks’ goal resulted in Cole Burke of Fairbanks getting a 10-minute unsportsmanlike penalty with only five minutes on the clock.

The weekend sweep pushed Anchorage to 19 points on the Club 49 Cup Point Tracker, Fairbanks falls in second place with eight and Kenai River just behind them with seven points.

Next weekend, the Wolverines split weekends with the Kenai River Brown Bears and will be playing at THE BEN on SATURDAY night with a 7pm puck drop.
