Sweep Complete Following Tight Road Win by Wolverines

Kenai, Alaska | 2/18/22 | Isaac Smoldon

After a Friday night game that saw 11 goals scored, Saturday’s contest between the Anchorage Wolverines and Kenai River Brown Bears was decided by a single point. Aiden Westin’s goal at the 4:41 mark of the second would decide the fate of the game, as goaltenders Shane Soderwall and Bryant Marks made 71 saves between the two of them in the contest.

Despite Kenai outshooting the Wolverines in the 1st, Soderwall was good for all 14 saves required to remain perfect in the frame. Marks made 10 saves for Kenai, and the score remained tied at nothing headed into the 2nd.

The middle frame would see the only goal of the contest scored, as Aiden Westin notched his 16th of the year off of a powerplay assist from Cooper Morris. Soderwall again stood tall in the period, making nine saves on nine shots.

Kenai would try desperately to tie the game in the 3rd, but ultimately would be unsuccessful, with Anchorage winning the game by just a goal. Both goaltenders played lights out, with Marks stopping 35 of 36, and Soderwall recording his second shutout of the year after making 36 saves to remain perfect in in contest.

With the sweep, Anchorage is now four points ahead of the fourth place Minnesota Magicians, remaining in third in the Midwest. The Wolverines now have a weekend off before taking on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on home ice, with puck drop at 7PM AKST. Tickets are available on anchoragewolverines.com and as always, all games can be watched exclusively on HockeyTV.
