Sep 25, 2021

MINNESOTA – Despite a spirited first period performance the Anchorage Wolverines were unable to thwart a Magicians rally, falling 6-5 at the Richfield Ice Arena.

The Wolverines jumped ahead early, just 71 seconds into the first Aiden Westin was able to tab the first goal of the game off the pass from Talon Sigurdson. Despite being outshot 11-10 in the frame, the Wolverines closed out the 1st with a 3-1 advantage with scores from Hunter Schmitz and Alexander Babich.

The tides changed in the 2nd, as the Magicians were able to burry two goals in 24 seconds, tying the game with the tally from Lucas Kanta.  Minnesota would eventually lead 4-3 in the second, but Anchorage eventually retaliated for the 3 straight Magician goals when Sigurdson tied it up 4-4 to close out period 2.

The 3rd period was a back and forth battle, but the Wolverines never led.  Andy Ramsey was able to tie it up 5-5 with under 5 minutes to play, but a late strike from the Magicians could not be answered.  Leading the Wolverines was Sigurdson with one goal and one assist, and Drake Albers with two assists.

The Wolverines have another shot at the Magicians, capping off the two-game series Saturday at 4pm AKST.
