The Anchorage Wolverines beat the Kenai River Brown Bears 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night, securing the Club 49 Cup in the process. Andy Ramsey was the OT hero for the Wolverines, with Eino Rissanen making 29 saves in the win.

Anchorage scored just over five minutes into the 1st period, with Jackson Reineke tipping in a pass from Cameron Morris on the powerplay. Reineke’s goal would be only scored through the entirety of the first 40 minutes, as the Wolverines held onto their 1-0 lead into the 3rd.

Both teams fought hard in the final period of regulation, and while Anchorage continued to protect their lead with tight defensive play, Kenai River was able to capitalize on a late powerplay to send the game to overtime. The Wolverines needed a hero, and they got one when Ramsey walked through the Brown Bears defense and scored five hole on Kenai River netminder Bryant Marks.

With the win Anchorage wins the Club 49 Cup championship, securing hockey supremacy in the 49th state. The Wolverines’ final two games of the regular season take place next weekend in Soldotna versus the Brown Bears. Friday and Saturday’s games will both begin at 7:30 AKDT.
