The Anchorage Wolverines have taken the first game of their playoff journey, with a 4-0 shutout against the Minnesota Wilderness.

The first period went scoreless giving the Wolverines a clean slate to dominate through the second and third periods.

Bryce Monrean bagged the Wolverines first goal with a back-door shot with an assist from Fedya Nikolayenya. Cole Christian later widened the teams lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute.

Tyler Hennen also scored tonight, bringing the Wolverines to a healthy 3-0 advantage.

Liam Beerman stood between the pipes for the Wolverines, shutting down 33 of 33 shots against, grabbing his fifth shutout of the season and leading the team to their first playoff win of the postseason.

Stopping shots wasn’t all Beerman did tonight, grabbing an assist to Oliver Salo’s open net goal to finish the game. His shutout and assist led to the league awarding him the Robertson Cup Star of the Night.

The Wolverines will attempt to take game two tomorrow, which would force the teams to finish the five game series on Minnesota’s home ice next weekend.
