The Anchorage Wolverines split the weekend with the Wisconsin Windigo thanks to their Saturday night victory by a score of 6-4. The Wolverines’ win came on the back of four unanswered goals, while netminder Shane Soderwall made 30 saves in the win.

Anchorage was set back on its heels early in the game on Saturday, with Wisconsin scoring three goals to the Wolverine’s one in the opening frame, in a repeat of Friday’s match-up. Logon Lyke scored the first goal of the contest, but two goals forty seconds apart from the Windigo, followed by a third unanswered goal late in the period gave the home team a sizeable lead headed into the middle frame. Anchorage would flip the script on Wisconsin in the 2nd however, with Aiden Westin starting the Wolverines’ comeback just nine seconds into the period. The Windigo regained the two-goal lead later in the 2nd, but two goals from Cameron Morris and Kyle Bauer with under three minutes left in the frame tied the game at four headed into the 3rd.

With a critical two points in the standings on the line, Bauer scored his second of the night 2:24 into the 3rd. Now playing with a lead, Anchorage would hold on for the remainder of the contest, with Gage Brown adding an insurance goal on an empty net for good measure. With the two points from the win, the Wolverines remain ahead of Wisconsin in the Midwest division standings, which have remained incredibly close following this weekend’s slate of games. Despite being in sixth place currently, Anchorage is only four points out of a playoff berth and seven points out of first place.

The Wolverines now have a week off for the Christmas holiday, but will return to play on the 30th and 31st of December, facing off against the Janesville Jets for only the third and fourth time this season. Both of those games take place in Janesville at 4:05 p.m. AKST and can be viewed exclusively on HockeyTV.
