The Fairbanks Ice Dogs beat Anchorage soundly on Saturday night by a final score of 8-3. Fairbanks scored seven straight goals before the Wolverines were able to respond, with five of their goals coming in the 2nd period alone. Anchorage plays against their other cross state rival this upcoming weekend, facing off against the Kenai River Brown Bears at 7PM at the Ben.

The first 30 minutes were a scoreless affair, with both goaltenders combining for 15 saves between them in the 1st period. Halfway through the 2nd however, the Ice Dogs offense exploded, as they score five goals in the middle frame and enjoyed a 5-0 lead after two periods of play.

Anchorage and Fairbanks scored three goals apiece in the final frame, with the Ice Dogs winning by a final score of 8-3. Fairbank’s scoring came from all over the lineup, as eight different Ice Dogs’ players recorded goals. Only two players tallied three points for Fairbanks, Marcus Lund with a goal and two assists and Cameron Ricotta with a playmaker.

Anchorage now sits out of a play-off spot for the first time this year. However, they remain just three points back of the third place Janesville Jets, with two games in hand. This means that the Wolverines still control their own destiny heading into the final 10 games of the season. Anchorage’s next game takes place at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena in Anchorage with puck drop at 7 PM AKST. Tickets are available now on anchoragewolverines.com
