Fairbanks Comes Back at Home to Beat Anchorage

Nov 25, 2022

Fairbanks, Alaska | 11/25/22 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines lost to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday night, with the Ice Dogs scoring three unanswered goals to win in regulation 3-2. Eino Rissanen was in goal for Anchorage again on Friday, and he made 36 saves on 39 shots in the loss.

The Wolverines scored the first of the game when Layten Liffrig potted his third of the year, 13:04 into the 1st period. Jackson Reineke added to the lead when he scored his 12th with under a minute to play in the frame. Reineke’s goal would be the final goal scored by Anchorage in the game however, as Fairbanks responded with two goals of their own in the 2nd period to tie the contest. Then in the 3rd, McCabe Dvorak scored with six minutes remaining to give the Ice Dogs their first lead of the night, a lead that they would hold onto all the way up to the final buzzer.

Both teams play again tomorrow at 7:30 AKST, at the Big Dipper Ice Arena in Fairbanks. Saturday’s game, like Friday’s, has implications for both the Midwest division standings and the Club 49 Cup, with Fairbanks leading the Cup standings after Friday’s game.  The Wolverine’s broadcast is available to watch live on HockeyTV.com by selecting the AWAY feed.
