The Anchorage Wolverines beat the St. Cloud Norsemen 6-2 on Saturday night, and will now advance to the Robertson Cup National Championship game against the winner of New Mexico and New Jersey. Anchorage got goals from five different scorers in the contest, and Raythan Robbins made 35 saves to backstop his team in the win.

The Wolverines were the first team to score for the second game in a row, with Hunter Bischoff tipping Hayden Hennen’s shot past Tomas Bolo to put his team up by one. Colton Friesen would get Anchorage its first two-goal lead of the weekend, scoring his sixth of the playoffs with 16:04 left in the frame. 17 seconds later however, a goal from Eagle River native Brandon Lajoie made the game 2-1 and it looked as if St. Cloud would escape the period down by just one. A goal from Talon Sigurdson with 15 seconds left in the period would change that however, and the Wolverines possessed a 3-1 lead after one.

The Norsemen would come out hungry in the 2nd period, but Anchorage rose to meet their intensity with a fire of their own. Despite a hard-fought period by the Wolverines, St. Cloud would be able to cut the lead to one, with Broten Sabo scoring to make the game 3-2. The Norsemen played aggressively early in the 3rd as well, but an odd-man-rush by Anchorage resulted in a Cambell Cichosz goal, and two empty netters by Bischoff and Jackson Krock made the final score 6-2.

The Wolverines will play the winner of the New Mexico and New Jersey series on Tuesday, May 24th at 4 PM AKST. The final round of the playoffs will be a winner-take-all game with the Robertson Cup on the line. The game will be available to watch live on HockeyTV.com.
