The Wolverines have completed their weekend sweep with tonight’s 4-0 shutout against the Chippewa Steel.

Fedya Nikolayenya found Tai Ushio for the Wolverines first goal, opening the scoring spree just four minutes into the first.

The Wolverines held a 1-0 lead until they found themselves in the Steel’s zone dancing around the defense early in the second period. Trent Powell was mid-ice at the blue line when he got the puck to Arvega Hovsepyan, who drilled it in the back of the net for the Wolverines second goal.

Not even a minute after Hovsepyan’s goal, Romulus Riego de Dios snagged another one taking the Wolverines to a 3-0 lead.

Ushio nearly pocketed his second goal of the night after he snuck past Chippewa’s last man, however after being denied by the Steel netminder, Nikolayenya came in on the backside for the rebound, securing the Wolverines’ final goal of the series.

Liam Beerman was perfect in net tonight for the Wolverines, denying all 33 shots faced. Chippewa didn’t make the night easy though, with Beerman making multiple sprawling saves.

Beerman’s tenacity secured his third NAHL career shutout.

Next on the schedule, the Wolverines have two-games facing the Kenai River Brown Bears. Join us Friday, March 1st, at The Ben for a 7:00pm puck drop. Saturday’s game will be played at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex and will be streamed through NAHLtv.
