Anchorage Wolverines split series with Fairbanks Ice dogs

Anchorage, AK | Nov. 11, 2023 | Jacqueline Hixssen

A hard fought battle ended with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs leaving the ice with the win.

Fairbanks snuck two goals in throughout the first. The former North Iowa Bulls player Nolan Abraham secured the first goal of the night one and a half minutes into the contest.

Tai Ushio broke through the defence with two minutes left in the first, with the goalie out of the net, Ushio took the shot and pinged it off of the right bar.

The Ice Dogs tallied three more goals throughout the game before Tyler Hennen found the back of the net with a pass from Jack Darby.

Jack Darby assisted another goal three minutes later when he found Trent Powell and Powell zipped it to the back of the net.

The buzzer may have called the end of the game, but it didn’t end the on ice rivalry. Things got heated immediately after the game was called, but was eventually broke a part by the refs. Like we learned last season, Fairbanks can’t leave The Ben without some sort of exaggerant show.

All we can say, is the fans got their money’s worth this weekend!

Another Alaskan showdown will happen next week when the Kenai River Brown Bears travel north on Friday, November 17th with a 7:00pm puck drop.
