Fairbanks, Alaska | 3/23/24 | Jacqueline Hixssen

The Wolverines completed their weekend sweep tonight with a 6-5 overtime win against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

The Ice Dogs took an early lead, turning the score 2-0 within the first 10 minutes; much different from last night’s contest where the Wolverines went up by four goals before the 10th minute.

Blake Markwell got his first goal of the weekend, putting the Wolverines on the board at 15:21 in the first with assists coming from Cole Frawner and Romulus Riego De Dios.

The second period went scoreless until 8:53 when Fairbanks’ lead scorer, Reece Cordray, widened their lead with a long range snipe.

Cole Christian started the Wolverines comeback feat, one-timing a centering pass sent in by Camden Shasby.

Bryce Monrean tied the game at 13:04 with assists from Fedya Nikolayenya and Jack Darby

Tyler Hennen snagged a power-play goal, putting the Wolverines ahead by one with just 37.6 seconds left in the second frame.

Monrean set the pace for the last period, immediately draining a glove-side top shelf goal 23 seconds after the puck dropped.

Fairbanks’ Nik Gudmundson batted the puck out of the air in the neutral zone, entering the Wolverines zone unmanned and grabbing a shorthanded goal, dwindling Anchorage’s lead to one point.

The Ice Dogs leveled the score two minutes later with Adam Timm faking the shot and Nolan Abraham burying it at the goal line, pushing the game into a 3v3 sudden death overtime.

The teams only played two and a half minutes of overtime before Shasby drilled in the game winning goal for the Wolverines.

Next weekend, the Anchorage Wolverines will face off against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at The Ben with two 7:00pm puck drops.
