It was a four point weekend for your Anchorage Wolverines, with tonight’s 4-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

The Brown Bears opened tonight’s scoring up with the first of four power-play-goals, beating Kade Shea and placing the puck over Vaughn Makar’s shoulder.

The Wolverines went on their first power play in the 11th minute of the first, allowing Tai Ushio to grab the equalizer and turning the score to 1-1.

Andy Larson of the Brown Bears took advantage of the third power play of the night, once again returning the lead to Kenai River.

A centering near side pass from Oliver Salo allowed for Ushio’s second power-play-goal, leveling the score once more.

Camden Shasby handed Anchorage their first lead of the night, putting the Wolverines ahead in the first minute and a half of the second frame.

Kenai River pulled their goalie at the end of the contest in hopes to take the game into overtime, but after Fedya Nikolayenya got the puck – Kenai’s hope dwindled.

Bryce Monrean recovered the puck in Anchorage’s defensive end, tossing it up the ice, Nikolayenya took a shot from inside Anchorage’s zone, draining it on an empty net and securing the game for the Wolverines.

Vaughn Makar stood in net tonight for the Wolverines, and made many game-changing saves. Makar stayed busy, seeing 44 shots and denying 42 while keeping the Brown Bears to a mere two-point game.

The Wolverines continue their win streak to eight straight, the highest win streak in the league AND the longest streak in Wolverines history.

The Wolverines now prepare for a big three-game weekend at HOME against the Springfield Jr. Blues March 8th-10th.
