Anchorage Travels to Wisconsin to Play Windigo

Dec 13, 2022

Anchorage, Alaska | 12/13/22 | Isaac Smoldon

After securing three out of a possible four points this past weekend against the Kenai River Brown Bears, the Anchorage Wolverines travel to Eagle River Wisconsin for their last two games before the 2022-23 regular season’s Christmas break. Fedya Nikolayenya was a key performer for Anchorage during the weekend, scoring three goals and two assists, enough to earn him “star of the week” for the Midwest division.

The Wolverines will be looking for some revenge on this trip, due to Wisconsin winning two of the three games the two teams played against each other in Anchorage a month-and-a-half ago. Both teams have been in the process of recovering from a slow start to the season, and both have been playing much better as of late, with Wisconsin only losing three of their last 10, and the Wolverines looking to continue a five game point streak. Only seven points separate the 1st place team in the Midwest, the Minnesota Wilderness, and 6th place Anchorage. With that in mind, a weekend sweep has the ability to propel the Wolverines into a playoff position before Christmas break, depending on the results of the Fairbanks/Janesville, and Kenai River/Chippewa games this weekend.

Both Friday and Saturday’s games this weekend are available to watch exclusively on HockeyTV. Both games start at 4 p.m. AKST.
