Fairbanks, Alaska | 11/27/21 | Isaac Smoldon

The Wolverines were swept for the first time this season, dropping the second game of the weekend by a score of 9-3 to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Dakota MacIntosh was a key part of the Fairbanks scoring, as he recorded a hat trick in the contest. The Ice Dogs’ power play also played a key role in the game as Fairbanks went 3/4 on the night.

Fairbanks got the first goal of the contest with MacIntosh beating Shane Soderwall just under seven minutes into the 1st. Anchorage responded a minute later, as Jackson Reineke picked up his fifth of the year off an assist from Logan Lyke. The tie wouldn’t last however, as MacIntosh would strike again in the frame to give Fairbanks back the lead, and the Wolverines went into the 2nd down by one.

In the 2nd period Alexander Malinowski gave the Ice Dogs its first two-goal lead of the contest off a rebound in front of the Anchorage net. Cameron Morris was quick to cut the lead back to one, tipping a shot past the Fairbanks’ Tyler Krivtsov. The middle of the period saw a flurry of scoring, with Tyler Stewart and Jack Ring extending the Ice Dogs lead to three before Talon Sigurdson got one for the Wolverines to make it a 5-3 game after two frames.

The 3rd period was opened by MacIntosh getting his hattrick, as he beat Soderwall and reestablished the three-goal lead for Fairbanks. A five-minute power play would allow Fairbanks to score twice more in the period. Krivtsov shut the door on the Wolverines forward corps in the 3rd and Fairbanks would beat Anchorage by a score of 9-3.

Following the win, Fairbanks is now 1st in the Midwest division, while Anchorage has moved down to 4th. The Wolverines will now face the Kenai River Brown Bears four times in a row, with their next series taking place in Kenai before they return to the Ben Boeke for the last home games of the calendar year.
