The Anchorage Wolverines were victorious over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Saturday night, winning the two teams’ final matchup against each other this season. Shane Soderwall made 29 saves in the win, and 59 saves on the weekend, with Anchorage sending the Ice Dogs home with no points in either game.

The 1st period was dominated by the Wolverines, with Anchorage scoring three goals in the opening frame while shutting out Fairbanks. Cameron Morris scored the first of the game two minutes in, with Revy Mack and Oliver Doran tacking on two more late in the period. In the 2nd, Jackson Reineke scored his third of the weekend on a five-minute major powerplay, and the Wolverines took a commanding four-goal lead into the final period. The Ice Dogs would make the game competitive in the 3rd, scoring three goals of their own, but an insurance tally from Mack halfway through the frame allowed Anchorage to skate to a 5-3 win over their cross-state rivals.

The Wolverines end the season with a record of 7-3-2 against the Ice Dogs in their 12 matchups against one another this year. With the win, Anchorage is now tied for fourth place with the Kenai River Brown Bears in the Midwest division standings, and are four points ahead of Fairbanks in the Club 49 Cup. The online auction for the specialty jerseys worn by the team this weekend will stay open until Sunday at noon AKST, with all the proceeds from their sale benefiting the Aubri Brown Club.

The Wolverines are back at home next weekend to take on the Minnesota Wilderness for the final two times this regular season, with Friday and Saturday’s games at the Ben both starting at 7 p.m. AKST. Tickets are available now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com, and the broadcast can be streamed exclusively on HockeyTV.
