Anchorage Loses to Springfield in Final Game of Weekend

Feb 4, 2023

Springfield, Illinois | 2/4/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines lost to the Springfield Jr. Blues 4-2 on Saturday night, in the third game of the weekend between the two teams. The 3rd period was costly for the Wolverines, as they gave up three unanswered goals in the final frame to lose the game in regulation.

Anchorage started the game well, jumping out to a one-goal lead after the 1st period thanks to a Jackson Reineke goal halfway through the frame. In the 2nd period, both teams exchanged a pair of goals early on, including another goal from Reineke, and the Wolverines still had the lead going into the final period. In the 3rd however, Springfield took control of the contest, first tying the game at the 12:43 mark, then taking the lead three minutes later. An empty net goal would ice the game with under a minute remaining, and Anchorage lost by a score of 4-2.

The Wolverines head to Wisconsin next weekend to play the Windigo twice, Friday at 4 p.m. AKST and Saturday at 3 p.m. AKST. The pair of games will be the final two games that Anchorage plays in the lower 48 this regular season. Both contests can be watched exclusively on HockeyTV.
