The Anchorage Wolverines beat their in-state rivals the Kenai River Brown Bears on Saturday night, 5-3 in their final game of the season. Eino Rissanen made 39 saves in the win, with an impressive 87 saves on the weekend.

The Wolverines came out strong in the 1st period, putting up two goals against the Brown Bears before the halfway point of the frame. Aiden Westin got the first of the period for Anchorage, and Cooper Morris added to the lead shortly after with his second of the season. Kenai River would cut the lead to one by the end of the 2nd period however, scoring twice to the one Wolverines’ tally in the frame from Mason Lebel.

The game was exciting to the final buzzer, with Lebel scoring his second of the night halfway through the 3rd, this time off of a spin-o-rama backhand pass from Westin on the powerplay. The Brown Bears would get back within one, but Tyler Hennen put the game out of reach late in the frame with his third of the year, and Anchorage won by a final score of 5-3.

The Wolverines end the 2022-23 season with a record of 28-24-8 in their 60 games played. For more information about pre-draft camps, player development and the 2023-24 season be sure to follow the team on social media, or regularly check Anchorage’s website, anchoragewolverines.com.
