Anchorage Drops Game One of Weekend to Wisconsin

Feb 9, 2023

Eagle River, Wisconsin | 2/9/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines lost to the Wisconsin Windigo on Thursday evening, giving up nine goals in a convincing win for the home team. Wisconsin improves to second in the division thanks to its win, while Anchorage remains in sixth in the Midwest.

Despite outshooting the Windigo 11-7 in the opening period, the Wolverines trailed Wisconsin 2-1 after one. Anchorage’s lone goal came from Trent Powell, who scored off of a pass from Travis Bryson. Wisconsin blew the game open in the 2nd however, scoring four goals to the Wolverines’ one, which was again scored by Powell. Fedya Nikolayenya would add one more goal for Anchorage in the 3rd, but it would do little to stem the tide, as the Windigo cruised to a 9-3 victory.

With the win, the Windigo now have won their last three games in a row. Conversely, the Wolverines are on a three-game losing skid. Anchorage will look to snap both team’s streaks in the last game of the weekend, tomorrow at 3 p.m. AKST. The game is available to watch exclusively on HockeyTV.
