Anchorage Defeats Austin in Second Game of Preseason

Sep 10, 2022

Rochester, Minnesota | 9/10/22 | Isaac Smoldon

Two 3rd period goals led Anchorage to a preseason victory against the Austin Bruins on Saturday afternoon, with the Wolverines winning by a final score of 3-2. The win was Anchorage’s second of the preseason, as they continue to prepare for their first regular season game on Wednesday.

The Bruins led by a score of 1-0 after the first, and extended their lead to two after a goal at the 2:44 mark of the middle frame. That goal would be the last that Austin scored in the contest however, as the Wolverines went on to tally three unanswered through the remainder of the game. Before the end of the 2nd period, Anchorage would cut the Bruins’ lead in half, with Cameron Morris scoring off of assists from Clay Allen and Cooper Morris. Then in the 3rd, returners Kory DiPonio and Aiden Westin each notched goals for their squad, and Anchorage’s defense held strong, making Westin’s point the game winner.

The Wolverines play one more preseason game, a rematch tomorrow against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at 9 a.m. AKDT.  Anchorage’s regular season begins on Wednesday, as the team plays the Amarillo Wranglers at 8:15 a.m. AKDT on the opening day of the NAHL showcase. Tomorrow’s game, and all four games of the showcase are available to watch exclusively on HockeyTV.
