Anchorage, Alaska | 1/21/23 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines won their second game of the weekend Saturday night, beating the Kenai River Brown Bears 5-1 in another convincing home win. Anchorage was again backstopped by a strong performance from Shane Soderwall, who made 26 saves on the 27 shots he faced in the contest.

It was another strong start for the Wolverines, as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one. Jackson Reineke scored Anchorage’s first, scoring late into a 5-3 powerplay for his 15th of the year. Clay Allen scored on the ensuing five-on-four, and the Wolverines went into the 2nd up by two. The middle frame saw another pair of goals tacked on by Anchorage, with Oliver Doran scoring his first junior goal, and Reineke potting his second of the night. Kenai River would stop Soderwall from getting the shutout with a single goal in the 2nd, but they would never come close to challenging the Wolverines’ lead, and an empty net goal by Wilson Dahlheimer sealed the game, with Anchorage winning by a final score of 5-1.

The Wolverines are now eight points ahead of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the Club 49 Cup standings, and are three points out of a playoff spot with 38 points in the Midwest division standings. Anchorage will be back at the Ben next week to take on their other cross-state rival in the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Both Friday and Saturday’s games will start at 7 p.m. AKST, with tickets available now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com, or watch the Wolverines’ live broadcast for both games exclusively on HockeyTV.
