Anchorage and Kenai River Face-off in Anchorage

Dec 5, 2022

Anchorage, Alaska | 12/5/22 | Isaac Smoldon

For the first time this year, the Anchorage Wolverines will host Kenai River Brown Bears at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena. The two teams play on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage, meeting for the fifth and sixth time this season. It is also the second weekend in a row that the Wolverines will play the Brown Bears, following their weekend sweep of Kenai River last weekend in Soldotna.

Anchorage has a record of 2-1-1 against the Brown Bears this season, thanks to two wins last Friday and Saturday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Friday’s game featured another heroic late-game comeback, with Aiden Westin scoring twice with under a minute remaining to help win the game for his team, by a final score of 3-2. Trent Powell was the standout on Saturday, pocketing two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win. In 10 games against other Alaska teams, the Wolverines have a record of 6-2-2, impressive enough to give them a five-point lead in the Club 49 Cup standings with 14 points.

Puck drop for both this weekend’s games is 7 p.m. AKST, with Saturday’s contest marking the final Wolverines home game of 2022. Tickets for the games are available now on anchoragewolverines.com, or at the door 30 minutes before game time. For those not able to attend the games in person, both can be watched on HockeyTV.com.
