Kai Weigel commits to Salve Regina University

ANCHORAGE, AK — Anchorage Wolverines netminder Kai Weigel has committed to Salve Regina University, an NCAA Division III program in Newport, Rhode Island.

“Congratulations to Kai on his commitment to play college hockey,” General Manager Merit Waldrop said. “His dedication, compete level and work ethic have made a lasting impact on our organization, and we’re grateful to have been part of his development. Kai has earned this opportunity through his commitment both on and off the ice, and we’re excited to follow his continued success at the next level.”

Weigel played 38 games for the Wolverines, recording one goal, seven assists and a .910 save percentage.

“I’m super honored and excited to commit to Salve,” Weigel said. “The people and coaching staff are amazing, and I’m just super excited to get to Newport and get the season going!”

The Salve Regina Seahawks are coming off a stellar season in which they posted a 20-5-0 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament before falling to Norwich University in the opening round.

Salve Regina will rejoin the Conference of New England after spending the past two seasons in the New England Hockey Conference, which has since dissolved.
