SOLDOTNA, AK — Tonight’s contest snapped the Wolverines’ seven-game win streak with a 4–1 loss to the Kenai River Brown Bears.
Kenai River set the tone early, sending the Wolverines into the first intermission trailing 1–0. While shorthanded in the second, Caleb Mahar found the equalizer with the lone goal of the period, but momentum quickly shifted in the third.
The Brown Bears erupted for three unanswered in just two and a half minutes, including an empty-netter, to seal the 4–1 final.
Although the Wolverines have already clinched a playoff berth, the race for home-ice advantage remains tight. With Minnesota Wilderness locked into first place, the battle for second through fourth is wide open between the Anchorage Wolverines, Fairbanks Ice Dogs, and Wisconsin Windigo.
Wisconsin’s win over Fairbanks last night broke the tie with Anchorage, pushing the Windigo into second place with 70 points. The Wolverines now sit in third with 68, followed closely by the Ice Dogs with 67.
With just two games in the regular season remaining, every point is critical in the push for second place and home-ice advantage.
The Wolverines return to Sullivan Arena tomorrow and Sunday to close out the three game series against the Brown Bears. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM on Saturday and 4:00 PM on Sunday.
