Anchorage, Alaska | 1/28/22 | Isaac Smoldon

Despite several chances in the extra frame, the Anchorage Wolverines fell in overtime to the visiting Janesville Jets on Friday night. The Jets were helped by a strong first period, in which they outscored Anchorage 2-0. Janesville would be stifled by both the Wolverines defense and Raythan Robbins for the remainder of regulation, as Robbins made 36 saves total in a contest where the Jets went on to win by the score of 3-2.

The Jets dominated the 1st period, eventually beating Robbins 7:14 into the frame to take the lead. Spencer Kring scored just his second goal of the season to put his team up by one, and late in the frame, Jack Ford made the score 2-0 with his third of the year. Despite giving up two goals Robbins still made 16 stops in the 1st.

Anchorage was quick to score in the middle frame, with Campbell Cichosz getting his fifth of the year on the powerplay 3:22 into the 2nd. An unassisted goal from Talon Sigurdson just under 2 minutes later, tied the game at 2 apiece. Sigurdson’s goal was the last scored in regulation.

Despite both teams having a 5-3 opportunity late in the 3rd, neither could capitalize to win before the end of the final frame. Both Robbins and Janesville netminder Owen Millward had perfect periods in the 3rd, making 7 and 6 saves respectively. After 60 minutes, an extra frame would be needed to decide the winner.

The Wolverines had their chances in OT, but a turnover late in extra time would cost Anchorage the game. Mack Keryluk tapped home the game winner off a quick pass from Grayden Daul, winning the game for Janesville by a score of 3-2.

The Wolverines now have a day off, before finishing their series against the Jets on Sunday at 4PM AKST. The game will take place at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena, with tickets available at anchoragewolverines.com or at the door 30 minutes before puck drop.
