Janesville, Wisconsin | 12/30/22 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines fell by a score of 5-3 to the Janesville Jets in their first game since the NAHL’s Christmas break. The two teams will play twice more in this week, as both jockey for playoff position in an extremely tight Midwest division.

The Wolverines and Jets would trade goals in the 1st, with Aiden Westin scoring the first of the game at the 8:14 mark of the opening frame, and Janesville responding five minutes later. Similarly in the 2nd, Fedya Nikolayenya gave Anchorage their lead back early in the period, but Janesville would respond to tie the game, before scoring a second unanswered goal to take their first lead of the contest. The final frame would see neither side score until the last two minutes of regulation, with Janesville potting an empty netter, before each team exchanged goals in the final five seconds of the game. The Wolverines’ goal came from Cameron Morris at the 19:55 mark before the Jets fired a shot in off the following faceoff to win by a score of 5-3.

Janesville jumps to fourth place in the Midwest, but Anchorage remains only three points behind in the standings. The two teams now prepare for tomorrow night’s game, which starts at 4:05 p.m. AKST. The Wolverines and Jets will also play later in the week, Wednesday at 4 p.m. AKST. Both games are available to watch exclusively on HockeyTV.com.
