Wolverines Shut-Out in Janesville

Dec 30, 2021

Janesville, Wisconsin | 12/30/21 | Isaac Smoldon

The Wolverines were held scoreless in their first game back following the Christmas break. Owen Millward made 33 saves for the Janesville Jets, who tallied four goals of their own to give them a 4-0 victory over Anchorage on Thursday. The two team play each other twice more this weekend, on the 31st of December and the 1st of January.

The first goal of the contest wouldn’t be recorded until the 13:22 mark of the 1st period with Ethan Begg scoring what ended up being the game-winning goal. Just over a minute later, Parker Mabbett got his first of the season to make the Jets lead two, blasting a back door shot into the Anchorage net. The score would remain unchanged through the 2nd and into the final period, with Millward making 11 saves in a middle frame where the Wolverines outshot the Jets 11-5.

Anchorage outshot the Jets again in the 3rd, but Janesville remained the only team to score as Cy LeClerc tallied his second point of the night to make the score 3-0 just over halfway through the period. An empty netter from Ethan Begg put the final nail in the coffin for the Wolverines chances and Janesville skated away with the 4-0 win.

While Anchorage remains in 3rd place in the Midwest, they did lose a game in hand against both teams that are in front of them in standings, as well as against Chippewa who is only three points back of Anchorage. The Wolverines and Jets play each other twice more this weekend with both games starting at 4 PM AKST.
