Kai is a fourth generation Alaskan, and grew up in Fairbanks. In 1998 at the age of 18, she earned a 100 ton Masters License and began work as a Captain in their family’s business driving their 154’ sternwheel riverboat. After earning a Petroleum Engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines, she moved to Anchorage to work for BP. She worked a production engineer, and financial analyst, and later a part time consultant. Kai and her family live in Eagle River, which is about 20 miles from Anchorage. Her husband John grew up in Eagle River, and is the President of Enstar Natural Gas, the state’s largest natural gas utility. John and Kai have three children, Fischer, Emerson and Sullivan who are all competitive athletes in hockey, gymnastics and baseball. John and Kai are part of the ownership group of the Anchorage Wolverines.
