The Anchorage Wolverines lost a close contest to the Amarillo Wranglers on Wednesday morning by a final score of 3-1. The game was Anchorage’s first of the regular season and was part of the NAHL showcase, the league’s opening regular season event.

Both goaltenders were unbeaten in the opening frame, but that would not continue into the 2nd. Jack McDonald got the game’s first goal, scoring for the Wranglers 10:18 into the period, while both teams were four-on-four. In the 3rd period, Amarillo would strike again, this time with Jack McDonald banging home a rebound off of a powerplay shot from Pierce Patterson. The Wolverines would respond not even a minute later however, with Trent Powell firing the puck past Carter Clafton for Anchorage’s first goal of the regular season. Danny Reis and Lyten Liffrig picked up assists on the play. Despite the Wolverines’ quick response, a tally from CJ Zezima of the Wranglers put the game out of reach, and Anchorage lost in regulation, 3-1.

Amarillo outshot the Wolverines 31-23 in the contest, with Anchorage goaltender Shane Soderwall making 28 saves. The Wolverines play tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. AKDT, hoping to bounce back against the Maine Nordiques.
