Anchorage Hopes to Close the Gap Versus Chippewa

Anchorage, Alaska |3/29/23 | Isaac Smoldon

After securing four points last weekend against Springfield, the Anchorage Wolverines find themselves in sixth place, three points behind their upcoming opponents in the Chippewa Steel. With seven games left in the regular season for both teams, and the final two playoff spots up for grabs, this weekend’s three-game series between the two teams has serious playoff implications.

Anchorage and Chippewa have not played each other since mid-September, with the Wolverines holding a 2-1-0 record against the Steel this season. Following this weekend, Chippewa will play the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a two-game series, followed by the Minnesota Wilderness to end the year. Anchorage will finish the season with four games in a row against the Kenai River Brown Bears, who currently are in 3rd place, one point ahead of the Steel.

The Wolverines currently control their own playoff destiny, but will need to pass either Chippewa or Kenai River in order to make the Robertson Cup Playoffs, which are now less than a month away. Anchorage’s final push for the playoffs begins Friday at 7 p.m. AKDT, with Saturday’s contest starting at the same time and Sunday’s beginning at 4 p.m. AKDT. Tickets for all three games are available now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com. The live broadcast for the games will be available exclusively on HockeyTV.
