Anchorage Comes Back in Dramatic Fashion Against Chippewa

Sep 22, 2022

Chippewa, Wisconsin | 9/22/22 | Isaac Smoldon

The Anchorage Wolverines scored three answered goals to beat the Chippewa Steel 3-2 on Thursday night. Anchorage was backstopped by Shane Soderwall, who made 34 saves on 36 total shots. All three of the Wolverines’ goals were scored by players new to the team.

Anchorage’s offensive woes from the NAHL showcase seemed to carry over into the first half of the game, with the Wolverines being held scoreless through most of the 2nd period, whereas the Steel were able to establish a two-goal lead. Anchorage’s fortune would change late in the middle frame however, with David Tolan firing a shot past Adam Gajan to bring the Wolverines within one. Halfway through the 3rd, Kade Shae would tie the game at two with a shorthanded goal, and five minutes late Wilson Dahlheimer gave Anchorage their first lead of the game. Chippewa would try unsuccessfully to even the score, and the Wolverines skated away with their second win of the season.

Layten Liffrig was the lone skater to pick up two points in the contest, notching assists on both the game tying, and game winning goal. Soderwall’s save percentage improved to a .928 following his second win of the season. Anchorage will play Chippewa on both Friday and Saturday of this weekend, with puck drop at 4 p.m. AKDT. Both games are available to watch on HockeyTV.
